Medical Hypnosis, Hocus Pocus?

DALLAS, TX, July 20, 2009 /24-7PressRelease/ — It may be too early and too small a movement as yet to be called a “trend” in the medical arts, but there are a growing number of medical professionals using Hypnosis as an adjunct or complimentary discipline when treating patients.

Darlene Robicheaux, RN, who presently works at a Home Health Services provider in North, Louisiana discovered the value of using Hypnosis after receiving a phone call from an embarrassed and distraught colleague who had been attempting to draw a blood sample from a notoriously difficult elderly patient. After several painful attempts to pierce a vein, the visiting nurse finally gave up and called her supervisor, Ms. Robicheaux, with the frustrating news.

Darlene responded by asking to speak to the patient. When put on the line she told the patient she was on the way to draw the blood herself and took the time to plant suggestions so that she would not have any problems getting the sample.

After arriving at the woman’s house Ms .Robicheaux spent several minutes calmly talking to her, allaying her anxiety about drawing blood and then coaching her to a deep state of relaxation. Stroking the patient’s hand, Darlene gave several suggestions in the waking state that the patient’s vein would rise close to the surface of the skin and that she wouldn’t feel any pain at all.

In no time at all, a smiling Ms. Robicheaux held the full vial of blood up for the patient to see – “Already done!” she replied to the amazed patient. Darlene left the smiling patient with several post hypnotic suggestions that in the future would make taking blood samples no problem, and to this day, to the relief of several visiting nurses, it hasn’t been.

Ms. Robicheaux used hypnotic techniques she learned at Dallas Hypnosis Career Training; the only Texas State licensed Hypnosis Career School in the Dallas Fort/ Worth Metroplex. In an intensive 10 day course Ms. Robicheaux and her fellow students earned certifications in several different aspects of Hypnosis.

Celeste Hackett, the owner and Instructor for Dallas Hypnosis Career Training notes that Ms. Robicheaux, as a Registered Nurse, was just another example of medical professionals showing an interest in the exciting possibilities of using Hypnosis, “I personally know of several nurses who use hypnosis and a doctor who left medicine, altogether, to open a Hypnosis practice”. “As a matter of fact, “She goes on, “the American Medical Association, since 1958, has acknowledged Hypnosis as an effective health modality”.

Her latest class at Dallas Hypnosis Career Training included students from many different backgrounds, such as a school counselor, a school principal, an entrepreneur, a Licensed counselor, a couple of corporate executives, two registered massage therapists and, of course, Darlene Robicheaux, the Registered Nurse.

“It’s not just the medical profession that’s waking up to Hypnosis”, says Celeste. “It’s a broad spectrum of people across the world looking for effective results and resolutions to their problems in a quick, relatively inexpensive way. Let your subconscious help solve your problems, after all, it’s the place where most of your problems began!”

Ms. Hackett is a member of the National Guild of Hypnotists, the largest and oldest educational corporation for hypnotists founded in Boston, MA in 1951. Ms Hackett also is the owner of Family First Hypnosis in Plano, Texas where she sees up to 20 clients per week. Family First Hypnosis has been in operation since 2006 and sees a variety of issues such as stop smoking, weight loss, as well as many other behavioral problems. The hypnotist also receives referrals from doctors and psychologists for issues such as phobias, depression and chronic anxiety. Celeste, also, is board certified by the NGH and is a Certified Professional Hypnosis Instructor.

“My students learn to use hypnosis with a variety of issues and to practice real hypnosis that really works”. Celeste goes on to point out, “With people confronting the harsh realities of today’s economy, controlling your own destiny, by being your own boss, in a business with very low start up costs, is extremely attractive.”

Classes are scheduled through out the year with the next one in September 2009. Tuition is offered at an introductory price of $1995, but discounts are available for early registration.
